Enrolment zone

Te Au o Tamatea - St Andrews Middle School is a zoned school. Only children residing at a permanent place of residence within the school’s home zone can enrol at our school. However, out of zone applications are always considered.

 

Please see the information below to see our school zone. Please note there are two school zones. There is a Year 7 and 8 Home zone as well as a Year 9 and 10 Home zone.

 

When you enrol your child please provide the following:

  • A copy of the child’s birth certificate or passport

  • Your child’s passport if parents are immigrants

  • A copy of the child’s immunisation certifcate

  • The child’s medical information

  • Any legal documents e.g. custody or access agreements the school should know about

  • Contact details in case of an emergency

  • Proof of residence such as a power bill or tenancy agreement

 

Special Programmes (Rumaki- Level 2 Immersion Unit)

 

The school operates the following special programme:

• Level 2 Māori Language Learning (Rūmaki Reo)

 

Students who live within the school’s home zone will be enrolled ahead of out of zone students.

 

Criteria for Acceptance into Level 2 Māori Language Learning (Rūmaki Reo)

 

The procedure for determining which out of zone students will be enrolled if there are more applicants than places available is as follows:

 

Each year the board will determine the number of places which are likely to be available in the following year for the enrolment of students who live outside the home zone. The board will publish this information by notice in a daily or community newspaper circulating in the area served by the school. The notice will indicate how applications are to be made and will specify a date by which all applications must be received.

 

Applications for enrolment will be processed in the following order of priority:

 

First Priority will be given to any applicant who has attended Maaori Immersion or Bi-lingual

education.

Second Priority will be given to any applicant who is of Maaori descent and whakapapa to iwi in Aotearoa.

Third Priority will be given to any applicant who is the sibling of a current or prior student of the reo rua class at Te Au o Tamatea - St Andrews Middle School.

Fourth Priority will be given to all other applicants.

If there are more applicants in the second, third, fourth, fifth or sixth priority groups than there are places available, selection within the priority group will be by ballot, similar to that undertaken for the English Language Learning roll described in the section Out of Zone Enrolments for English Language Learning below.

Year 7 to 8 Home Zone

All students who live within the home zone described below shall be eligible to enrol at the School.

The zone begins at the intersection of Pukete Road and Totara Drive and follows Totara Drive east to a point directly north of number 167 (odd numbered Totara Drive addresses are included in the zone, even numbered Totara Drive addresses are not included in the zone), then extends north to the boundary of the Waikato River.The boundary follows the Waikato River south as far as Awatere Avenue, where it turns west, crossing Awatere Avenue at numbers 57 and 62 (Awatere Avenue addressesnumbered 55 and below (odd) and 60 and below (even) are not included in the zone). The zone continues west, crossing Beerescourt Road at numbers 53 and 54 (Beerescourt Road addresses numbered 52 and below are not included in the zone), then extends southwest toa point directly south of number 4/10 Elizabeth Street. From here, the boundary follows Charles Crescent west to Vercoe Road, then follows Vercoe Road south to its intersection with Te Rapa Road. The zone travels west on Te Rapa Road to its intersection with Garnett Avenue and Vardon Road (even numbered Te Rapa Road addresses numbered 232 and above are included in the zone, as are odd numbered Te Rapa Road addresses numbered 265 and above. Dalgliesh Avenue addresses are not included in the zone).The zone follows Garnett Avenue southwest to the roundabout, then follows Minogue Driveto its end, extending to the railway. The boundary follows the railway north to Wairere Drive (401 Wairere Drive is not in zone), then follows Wairere Drive northeast to its intersection with Pukete Road, and follows Pukete Road north to its intersection with Totara Drive, where the zone began (even numbered Pukete Road addresses are included in the zone, odd numbered Pukete Road addresses are not included in the zone).

 

Note: Both sides of all streets and roads included in the above description are included unless otherwise stated.

Year 9 to 10 Home Zone

All students who live within the home zone described below shall be eligible to enrol at the School.

The zone begins at the intersection of Gateway Drive, Horotiu Bridge Road, and Great South Road, and extends east to the Waikato River (Horotiu Bridge Road addresses are not in zone). The boundary follows the Waikato River south to the Pukete Bridge, then extends northeast along Wairere Drive to the roundabout. Continuing along Wairere Drive, the zone turns southwest to cross River Road at numbers1036 and 1043 (River Road addresses numbered 1034 and below are not included in the zone), before meeting the Waikato River again. The boundary continues following the Waikato River south as far as Milne Park, then turns west to meet Victoria Street at its intersection with Maeroa Road. The zone travels west along Maeroa Road to Hobson Street, then follows Hobson Street north to Forest Lake Road (Forest Lake Road addresses numbered 18 and below are included in the zone).From here, the boundary continues northwest to a point directly west of Menzies Street, then turns southwest to cross Steele Road (Steele Road addresses numbered 7 and above are included in the zone), continuing to the end of Christie Street. The zone travels northwest on Christie Street, southwest along Storey Avenue to the roundabout, then follows Garnett Avenue to Seifert Street, and Seifert Street to its end. The boundary continues west to the railway, then follows the railway north to Chalmers Road, and follows Chalmers Road southwest to its end (even numbered Chalmers Road addresses are included in the zone, odd numbered Chalmers Road addresses are not included in the zone).

The zone extends northwest to the Te Kowhai roundabout, then follows Koura Drive north before turning northwest again to meet Onion Road at its intersection with Horotiu Road. From here, the boundary travels northeast to the railway, then follows the railway north to Gateway Drive, and Gateway Drive northeast to the intersection of Gateway Drive, Horotiu Bridge Road, and Great South Road, where the zone began.

Out of Zone Enrolments for English Language Learning

Each year the board will determine the number of places which are likely to be available in the following year for the enrolment of students who live outside the home zone. The board will publish this information by notice in a daily or community newspaper circulating in the area served by the school. The notice will indicate how applications are to be made and will specify a date by which all applications must be received.Applications for enrolment will be processed in the following order of priority:

First Priority must be given to students who have been accepted for enrolment in the following special programme(s) run by the school and approved by the Secretary of Education up to the maximum rolls set for each programme (where applicable): Level 2 Māori Language Learning (Rūmaki Reo)

Second Priority will be given to applicants who are siblings of current students.

Third Priority will be given to applicants who are siblings of former students.

Fourth Priority will be given to any applicant who is a child of a former student of the school.

Fifth Priority will be given to any applicant who is either a child of an employee of the board of the school or a child of a member of the board of the school.

Sixth Priority will be given to all other applicants.

 

If there are more applicants in the second, third, fourth, fifth or sixth priority groups than there are places available, Selection within the priority group will be by ballot conducted in accordance with instructions by the Secretary, under Schedule 20, Clause 3 (1) of the Education and Training Act 2020.

Parents will be informed of the date of any ballot by public notice in a medium appropriate to the area served by the school.

 

Applicants seeking second or third priority status may be required to give proof of a sibling relationship.
